The National Bank of Belgium and the International Monetary Fund invite you to the launch of the Fall 2023 IMF Outlook Report for Europe Restoring Price Stability and Securing Strong and Green Growth.
Key speakers are Mr. Alfred Kammer, Director of the IMF’s European Department, and Mr. Helge Berger, Deputy Director of the IMF's European Department. National Bank of Belgium (NBB) Governor Mr. Pierre Wunsch will give opening remarks.
Europe is at a turning point. The continent grapples with defeating inflation while also striving to secure strong and green growth. Energy prices have fallen rapidly this year, but underlying inflation is only receding slowly, and wage growth has picked up. The outlook for Europe is a mild recovery in 2024 and prospects for faster growth beyond 2024 are limited. Europe has suffered from low productivity growth for some time and debt levels have risen. Climate change and fragmentation pose additional challenges. The report discusses the post-crises outlook for Europe and how countries best address the intertwined goals of restoring price stability, raising growth, and greening their economies.
The presentation will be followed by a panel discussion moderated by Ms. Maria Tadeo (Bloomberg), with Mr. Xavier Debrun, NBB's Head of Economics and Research, Mr. Koen De Leus, Chief Economist BNP Paribas Fortis and Mr. Alfred Kammer, Director of the IMF's European Department.
