The National Bank of Belgium and the International Monetary Fund invite you to a presentation of the latest IMF World Economic Outlook (WEO) by Alexandre Balduino Sollaci. The presentation will focus on a WEO analytical chapter exploring ways to curb public indebtedness. Xavier Debrun, NBB's Head of Economics and Research, will be the discussant.
Public debt soared globally during COVID-19 and is expected to remain elevated, posing a growing challenge for policymakers, particularly as real interest rates are rising across the world. In the World Economic Outlook (WEO), the IMF’s biannual publication to present analyses of recent global economic developments, a chapter has been dedicated to examining the effectiveness of different approaches to reducing debt-to-GDP ratios. Alexandre Balduino Sollaci, economist at the IMF and author of the WEO chapter, will present the analytical work of the chapter and discuss its main conclusions.
